Now that you have places you want to visit, how do you communicate? Most people in Barcelona speak English, (come on USA its time to make everyone bilingual!) but you should know that there are several languages spoken throughout Spain. Spanish is the official language, but then there is Basque, Catalan, and Galician. In Barcelona, Spanish and Catalan are common. Here’s how to communicate in Barcelona.

Communicating in Barcelona

If you have some knowledge of Spanish, great! Now it’s time to use it! If you’re intimidated or unsure about your language skills, don’t be, the only way to get better is to practice! Most locals are very nice when you try to speak in Spanish. Trust me, my Spanish skills are very rusty and several locals took pity on me.

If you want to find out if someone speaks English a good phrase to keep in mind is, “¿Habla inglés?” Which means, “Do you speak English?” Check out this website http://www.fodors.com, it’ll give you more basic phrases that can help you through-out your journey. Just remember don’t be shy and have fun with it!
