What You Can Do with a Night in Rome

After my long haul to get to Rome, I was really happy to finally be there. I had made it in one piece, by myself! Being that I’d never been to Rome, or Italy, and spoke very, very, very little Italian. I was really impressed with myself. Then, I decided to hit up some of the close by attractions for my first night in Rome since it was afternoon by the time I arrived. Making sure to pick places that would be well populated since I was by myself in a new place.

Spanish Steps

I made my way east of my hostel, Comics Guesthouse, to the Spanish steps. They are really cool, but honestly I thought all the people hanging around and the lamps illuminating everything was cooler! It felt romantic and fairytale. It’s so nice to see people outside just hanging out in these gorgeous locations. Even now, nearly 9 months later, my breath is taken away by the beauty.

Trevi Fountain

From there I headed down to the Trevi Fountain, which was unfortunately closed. I’m told this has been happening a lot lately. Apparently they’ve been on and off doing renovations. Was kind of disappointed since it was my first night in Rome. The fountain had been drained of all water. You’re not supposed to throw coins in with it drained but…..

Piazza Navona

After the disappointment of the Trevi Fountain, I headed to Piazza Navona. Honestly, I loved this piazza! It was gorgeous! I can’t imagine what it’s like to live and work near there. It was stunning! The architecture, people, vendors, and restaurants. It was so full of life! After taking these amazing photos I sat and had some dinner at an adorable little place. The food was really good, and they were kind even though my Italian is very poor. I did try my best to use the few words my friend taught me.

Pantheon

Now if you thought that was pretty, which I did, wait for the Pantheon. I truly, deeply, think this is the most beautiful photo I’ve ever taken. And I promise, all I did was lighten it a bit, and that goes for all these photos. Just a small bump in brightness. The Pantheon really dominated the area. You couldn’t help but stare at it, like I did, for like 5 whole minutes.

Castel Sant’ Angelo

Finally, to end my first night in Rome, I passed by the Castel Sant’ Angelo and walked along the River Tiber. It was really lovely. I did stick to well-lit areas, especially since it wasn’t as well populated at this point in the evening. I arrived at the hostel safely and got a good night rest in beautiful Rome, Italy.
