Are you looking for a place to stay in Rome on a budget? The most unique hostel I’ve stayed at is the Comics Guesthouse Rome Italy. It’s the epitome of nerd travel, so I had to stay here! It’s a mash-up of my love of comics with my budgetary needs of a hostel. Comics Guesthouse Roma is near the Vatican, and it’s conveniently located, which is perfect if you’re looking to do a lot of sightseeing! It was also easy to get to via Rome’s public transportation.
They have a selection of different nerdy-themed rooms you can stay in. I had the pleasure of staying in the Super Mario Bros shared room while on my solo trip to Rome. I love staying in shared rooms because you always meet interesting people. Just by staying in a shared room, I met people from around the world, one of whom I’ve become Facebook friends with.
Why Pick Comics Guesthouse Roma?
I picked Comics Guesthouse Rome Italy because it was not only affordable but also centrally located and near a metro stop (Lepanto). When traveling, the last thing you want to be is really far from the sights you plan to see. It eats up valuable time that you could be spending enjoying your vacation. I found staying at Comic Guesthouse Rome Italy, very convenient for this reason.
Comics Guesthouse was also extremely safe. They have a big gated entrance which leads to a staircase. After going up one floor, you have a key code to enter the hostel itself and then a key to get into your room. They provide the keys on an adorable nerdy key chain. I had a Luigi one. Want to know what other criteria to look out for when picking a hostel? Don’t worry, I’ve got a post to help you decide if staying at a hostel is for you!

Checking in at Comics Guesthouse Rome Italy
When you enter Comics Guesthouse Roma, you enter the main room, which is decorated wall to wall with comics. They have video game consoles (Wii and PlayStation), arcade games, DVDs, books, and magazines for those staying at the hostel. You can hang out on bean bags or a comfy couch. They also have a wall where you can see discounts—perfect for budget travelers—travel tips, and more!
Upon check-in, I was given not only my keys but a map of the city, which I wound up using quite a bit! If you’d like a paperless version of a map, check out my post on travel apps!
The staff at Comics Guesthouse is lovely and super helpful. When I let them know that the locker I was assigned in my room wasn’t locking, they had it fixed the same day! Though they don’t have 24-hour service, they have desk times and emergency contact numbers listed. I, fortunately, didn’t have to use it, but it was nice to know it was there as I’ve had trouble with other hostels not providing this essential information!
Let’s not forget to mention I got up close and personal with Superman!
Super Mario Bros Shared Room
My room was decked out in every possible Super Mario Bros. way! Everything from the light fixtures to the toilet had something Mario-associated on it. I was in a room with six bunk beds. As it was June, it was quite hot at Comics Guesthouse. However, they had air conditioning, which helped! The room itself was spotless! I loved that there was a little desk that I used for doing makeup and sorting out my bag for the day.
One of the best parts of this room is the little balcony! I skyped my friend from here and had a lovely time chilling there and chatting. There were two showers in the bathroom. I’m not sure why, but who am I to complain about options? The facilities were immaculate and tidy. There was a little stand next to the shower, which was convenient for hair products, toiletries, and such.

What to Expect at Comics Guesthouse Roma
Some of the amenities available that I used were Wi-Fi, luggage storage, maps, linen, and towels. Since I was trying to eat as much real Italian food as possible before heading home to the States, I didn’t use the kitchen much, but it was nice that I had the option. Had I been in Rome for more than just three days, I would have likely taken advantage of more of their amenities.
