Looking for a hostel in Soho London? Or one near Oxford Street? Then look no further as I’ve stayed at the YHA on Oxford Street and thoroughly enjoyed my time there! As I had gone to the YHA London Central location last time, I chose to check out the YHA Oxford Street location on this trip. Since shopping in London is an addiction of mine, this provided me with a precarious situation since I’d be so close to the best shops!
Why Stay in a Hostel in Soho?
For those who don’t know, Oxford Street is THE place to shop! Making this hostel in Soho London a prime location for travelers who are also big shoppers!
Even if you aren’t a big shopper, it is centrally located to other key parts of London, such as Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, the British Museum, the National Gallery, and many of London’s best theaters. There are also a number of wonderful clubs and pubs in Soho.
💡Travel Tip: For an unforgettable London adventure, I strongly suggest checking out my 2 day London itinerary for first-timers. And if you’re looking for a short day trip from London, I recommend Hampton Court Palace. Conveniently accessible by train, Henry the 8th’s estate offers an incredible experience for Anglophiles and travelers alike.
Getting to YHA Oxford Street
After landing at Heathrow, I took the tube from the airport to Piccadilly Circus and then walked north to the YHA Oxford Street hostel. It’s less than half a mile walk through the theater district, so walking even at night is very safe. I’m often a solo female traveler, so if I felt safe, you’re good.
I went via the tube because the express train from Heathrow costs about four times as much as the tube ticket. Sure, the express train will get you there faster, but it’ll also take you to Paddington Station, so you’d still have to get on a tube to get to this hostel in Soho, London. If you take the tube as I did, you don’t have to make any changes. You just stay on the one line.
If you aren’t entering the country from Heathrow, you can use City Mapper to assist in giving you live transit information.
Arriving at This Hostel in Soho London
The entrance to YHA Oxford Street is tucked in a bit, so if you come from the left side of the building, you won’t see it until you’re right on top of it. To assist in finding it, I’d recommend using GPS. You can find my recommendations on Wi-Fi-less maps here.
When I arrived at the hostel, I was warmly greeted by the staff. That’s one of my favorite things about YHA. They’re always sweet and helpful. I had a private room with bunk beds. You can also book a bed in a shared room if you’re looking to save money. They have 104 beds and over 36 Rooms (double, twin bunk, three-bed, four-bed private rooms and dorms, all with shared facilities) available.
As a note, there were two flights of stairs to my room, so those who need help with stairs may want to look at one of their other locations. There was an elevator from the ground floor to reception, but I’m unsure if it went any further than that or if there are rooms on that floor.
This is something to inquire about if you select this location and require accessibility as their site notes, “Most of our bedrooms and toilets/shower rooms are located on the fourth and fifth floors with access via stairs only.”
My Review of YHA Oxford Street
The room was clean and had a big window looking south. I could even see a bit of the London Eye from there! I loved that there was a little desk with a seat. It gave me a place to sort my bag and itinerary papers out. A good-sized mirror was also in the room, which you only sometimes get in hostels, so I was thrilled about it!
Outlets by the beds are convenient, especially if you’re charging your phone while sleeping. There are also cabinets that lock if you need one. Bring your own lock, or I’m pretty sure you can rent one from the front desk.
The beds were super comfy, and I slept like a baby! I had settled in by the time I took these photos, so excuse the mess. I was tired. YHA Oxford Street hostel rooms don’t come with my stuff all over HAHA!
The Best Hostel in Soho London?
One of the best things about staying at a YHA hostel is the discounts! While there, I got a discounted ticket for Hampton Court Palace and saw several other discounts available. Make sure to check in with the staff before leaving for the day to see if you can get any discounts on attractions you’re planning to visit. Being that London can get rather expensive, take the deals where you can!
In my opinion, the YHA Oxford Street hostel is more family-friendly than others I’ve been to since there was no large bar area or music playing at night. The street where the hostel is located also wasn’t very loud so that is a great benefit of staying here as well.
My only note for improvement would be that they didn’t have enough tables in the dining area when I went down and got breakfast in the morning. I didn’t have a table to sit at as they were all taken already.

London Hostel FAQs
Is Soho London dangerous?
In my experience, no. I did not feel like Soho London was dangerous at all. Since it is so close to such a large shopping district, people were out all day, so I was never alone walking around this area. There are also a lot of restaurants and pubs so people are there day and night. However, the noise was never troublesome, so it was still very enjoyable.
Are hostels safe in London?
I’ve stayed in several hostels in London, namely YHA Oxford Street and YHA London Central, and I felt extremely safe both times. I would highly recommend their hostels, in particular, to anyone looking for a hostel stay in London.
Can anyone stay at a YHA Hostel?
When I first stayed in a YHA hostel, it was the YHA London Central hostel, and I was with my Aunt. They had no issue with her being older, so yes, anyone can stay at a YHA hostel unless explicitly stated otherwise on their site. I recommend checking out their Hostelworld pages for the most up-to-date information.
